en.Wedoany.com Reported - The mega fleet expansion of Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) is driving global port infrastructure improvements, with major innovations concentrated on terminals along trade routes in Africa, the Middle East, and India. According to Lloyd's List, MSC holds the world's largest order book for mega container ships, with a fleet size that surpasses competitors even in the long term.

Recently, MSC has taken delivery of 10 20,000 TEU LNG-powered vessels built by Chinese shipyard Hengli Heavy Industry, bringing its order book to 166 ships with a total capacity of nearly 3 million TEU.

This expansion is driving the development of new routes away from traditional Eurasian shipping lanes, making voyages to India, West Africa, and the Middle East more significant. Port facilities in these regions need corresponding upgrades to accommodate large-capacity vessels, including dredging and deepening, terminal expansion, and installation of larger-span cranes.
MSC has rerouted its Asia-Europe services around the Cape of Good Hope and announced improvements to its "Africa Express" route, establishing a permanent 24,000 TEU vessel service on the Africa-Asia route. In terms of port infrastructure, MSC's Terminal Investment Ltd has begun investing in its facilities. The Lomé Container Terminal in Togo can now receive 20,000 TEU vessels, and King Abdullah Port in Saudi Arabia has also been equipped to handle ultra-large container ships.
Currently, MSC continues to improve facilities at Vizhinjam Port in India to accommodate these new vessels in the future.
