en.Wedoany.com Reported - On July 15, Caledonian Maritime Assets Limited (CMAL) commenced dredging operations for the Port Ellen terminal development project, preparing for the construction of a new ferry terminal. CMAL stated that this project aims to create safer and more resilient ferry infrastructure for the Isle of Islay, marking an early critical step in project advancement.

The work is being carried out within the scope of approved permits, with a meticulously planned approach and environmental control and monitoring mechanisms throughout the entire process. Detailed assessments indicate that dredging and related marine operations will not have a substantial impact on wave conditions, tidal levels, or flood risks in the waters surrounding Port Ellen Bay. Continuous monitoring and verification will be conducted during construction, with all disposal activities recorded and tracked. Post-project surveys will also be carried out to verify that dredging and disposal operations strictly comply with permit conditions and environmental requirements.
The current disposal site is located at Port Ellen, which was previously permitted for use during the terminal reconstruction project from 2011 to 2012. CMAL noted that although alternative disposal sites were discussed during initial stakeholder communications, the current project is proceeding with the Port Ellen disposal site as planned, in accordance with the approved dredging permit conditions.
