en.Wedoany.com Reported - Ocean Winds (a joint venture equally owned by EDP Renewables and Engie) has obtained offshore consent from the Scottish Government for its 2GW Caledonia offshore wind farm, marking the removal of the last major regulatory hurdle for the project.

Located approximately 40 kilometers offshore in the Moray Firth, this ScotWind project is expected to generate enough electricity to meet the needs of around two million households once operational.

This approval follows the full onshore consent granted by Aberdeenshire Council earlier this year, allowing the project to move into the next development phase.

Ocean Winds expects offshore construction to begin in 2030, subject to the project securing a Contracts for Difference and reaching a final investment decision.

Mark Baxter, Project Director for Caledonia, stated that the project is the result of years of work by the team, and the Scottish Government's decision to grant consent helps advance the project. He also noted that Caledonia's 2GW capacity will double the generation output in the Moray Firth, thereby supporting the UK's goals of enhancing energy security, decarbonizing the power system, and driving job transition.

Ocean Winds stated that Caledonia, together with the Moray East and Moray West offshore wind farms, will support over 200 long-term operational jobs in the Moray Firth region.
