en.Wedoany.com Reported - Businesses in the Argyll and Bute area are being encouraged to explore commercial opportunities arising from the Corr Chnoc wind farm project. Renewable energy developer Galileo Empower has launched a supplier registration portal, formally accepting expressions of interest from local suppliers and contractors who may provide support once the project receives approval.

The proposed Corr Chnoc wind farm plans to install 11 turbines on land at Dunach Estate, approximately 2 km northeast of Kilmore and 5 km east of Oban. Originally designed with 12 turbines, one was removed following consultations with Argyll and Bute Council. Independent analysis estimates the total investment in the project could exceed £100 million. Galileo Empower has committed to prioritizing local suppliers and contractors in the development, construction, and operation of the wind farm, wherever reasonably practicable.

The company seeks information on businesses in the region capable of providing goods, services, or expertise. Potential opportunities span civil engineering, construction, fencing, drainage, and forestry services; electrical contracting; supply of building materials and equipment; as well as equipment rental and on-site security. The consent application for Corr Chnoc Wind Farm was submitted to Scottish Ministers in January 2025 under Section 36 of the Electricity Act, and is currently under review by the Energy Consents Unit (ECU), with additional environmental information provided following receipt of consultation responses.

Ross Jamison, Senior Project Manager at Galileo Empower, stated that the company has already subcontracted some work to local businesses, and launching the supplier registration portal is an important next step to ensure local companies are aware of potential opportunities and can benefit once the project is approved. During construction, the project is expected to support approximately 100 local jobs and generate over £5 million in annual operational and maintenance expenditure. Additionally, a community wealth fund will provide approximately £19 million in funding over the wind farm's entire lifecycle to support local priorities and community-led initiatives.

A spokesperson for Bid4Oban (Oban Business Improvement District) added that the launch of the supplier registration portal offers local businesses a direct way to express interest and stay informed about future opportunities. Renewable energy developments like Corr Chnoc have the potential to attract significant investment to the area, create jobs, enhance skills, and support long-term sustainable economic growth. The spokesperson expressed delight in seeing Galileo Empower's commitment to prioritizing local suppliers and contractors, and looks forward to continued collaboration to help businesses in the local supply chain maximize their benefits.
