en.Wedoany.com Reported - Haizea Wind Group has delivered the largest monopiles ever manufactured in Southern Europe to the Hornsea 3 offshore wind farm in the UK.

The monopiles were produced at the company's facility at the Port of Bilbao, measuring over 105 metres in length, 11 metres in diameter, and weighing more than 2,300 tonnes each.

The company stated that these monopiles are the largest structures ever manufactured on the Iberian Peninsula and among the largest in Europe; Haizea is currently the only manufacturer in Spain capable of producing monopiles of this size.

Loading operations were carried out at the Port of Bilbao with logistics support from Grúas Aguado; Cadeler handled the load-out and discharge operations, while Mammoet used self-propelled modular transporters (SPMTs) to move the monopiles within the port.

The XXL monopiles for Hornsea 3 are jointly supplied by Haizea and Dajin Heavy Industry, and are being installed by Cadeler's vessel "Wind Ally," which began operations at the offshore project site in May this year.

The 2.9 GW offshore wind farm is located in the UK North Sea, approximately 120 kilometres off the coast of Norfolk, and will feature 197 Siemens Gamesa SG 14-236 DD offshore wind turbines, each with a capacity of 14 MW (excluding power boost).

Hornsea 3 is jointly owned by Ørsted and funds managed by Apollo, with Mubadala Investment Company recently acquiring a stake. The project is expected to become operational in 2027, at which point it will be the largest single offshore wind farm in the world, generating enough renewable electricity to power more than 3.3 million UK homes.
