Wedoany.com Report-Aug. 18, Ireland-based Activ8 Energies has acquired Low Carbon Energy (LCE), a UK solar company, to strengthen its presence in the United Kingdom’s commercial and industrial (C&I) solar sector. The acquisition, completed in August 2025, aims to enhance Activ8’s capacity to deliver renewable energy solutions across the UK.

Founded in 2009, LCE has installed over 60 megawatts (MW) of solar capacity across more than 300 sites, serving clients such as BMW, Porsche, Co-op, Boeing, Drax Power, Tata Steel, Wickes, United Utilities, and the National Health Service (NHS). The company has built a strong reputation for providing reliable solar solutions to major organizations.

The acquisition involves the transfer of 100% of LCE’s shares to Activ8. Benedict Ennis will continue as LCE’s managing director, while founder Ged Ennis will remain as a non-executive director to provide strategic guidance. LCE will maintain its brand identity in the near term to ensure continuity for its customers while benefiting from Activ8’s resources.

Activ8, which is 50% owned by SSE Airtricity, a subsidiary of Scottish energy company SSE, recently completed a £3 million ($4.06 million) solar farm at Liverpool’s John Lennon Airport. Operational from September 2025, the project supplies approximately 25% of the airport’s electricity needs. Activ8 aims to double its turnover and installed solar capacity in the coming years, positioning itself as a leading player in the UK’s C&I renewable energy market.

“This acquisition marks a transformative moment for Activ8 as we accelerate our UK growth ambitions,” said Ciarán Marron, CEO of Activ8 Energies. “By combining the strengths of Activ8 and Low Carbon Energy, we’re better equipped than ever to deliver innovative, large-scale energy solutions for clients seeking sustainable energy security.”

The acquisition aligns with the increasing popularity of power purchase agreements in the UK, which enable businesses to adopt solar energy without upfront costs. This model supports the nation’s goals of reducing carbon emissions and enhancing energy sustainability, particularly in the commercial and industrial sectors.

By integrating LCE’s expertise and client base, Activ8 is well-positioned to expand its renewable energy offerings and contribute to the UK’s transition to a low-carbon economy.
