Wedoany.com Report-Sept. 21, Synera Renewable Energy (SRE) has chosen Siemens Gamesa to supply 35 offshore wind turbines, each with a capacity of 14MW, for the 495MW Formosa 4 offshore wind project in Taiwan. The turbines will be delivered from Siemens Gamesa’s nacelle production facility in Taichung, further reinforcing the company’s local industrial presence.
Formosa 4 secured its capacity rights in Taiwan’s Phase 3 Zonal Development auction in 2022 and received its establishment permit in 2024. It is the first project among the round one winners to reach this stage. Once completed, the wind farm will be located off Miaoli County and is expected to generate enough renewable electricity to supply approximately 500,000 households each year.
SRE chairperson Lucas Lin emphasized the significance of this milestone: “Over the past six years, we have delivered Formosa 1, Taiwan’s first offshore wind farm, and Formosa 2, the first among Phase 2 projects to reach commercial operation. Now we’re building on that success with Formosa 4.” He added: “Given the strong partnership forged with Siemens Gamesa during Formosa 1 and 2, we’re pleased to have them on board again for Formosa 4, deepening the collaboration and advancing sustainability together.”
SRE chief projects officer Sahand Holm also noted the cooperation that shaped the agreement: “The deal followed a thoughtful and collaborative journey between the two companies, and both teams have demonstrated dedication, professionalism, and perseverance.”
Representing Siemens Gamesa, global head of sales Mogens Jakobsen highlighted the project’s importance for local industry: “The Formosa 4 project reaffirms our commitment and will strengthen our local industrial nacelle production in Taichung further.”
The Formosa series of projects reflects SRE’s continuous role in Taiwan’s offshore wind development. Formosa 1 marked the country’s entry into offshore wind, while Formosa 2 demonstrated early progress in Phase 2 development. With Formosa 4, the company is continuing its expansion in partnership with Siemens Gamesa, combining international expertise with local industrial capacity.
By delivering nearly 500MW of offshore wind power, Formosa 4 is expected to make a significant contribution to renewable energy supply and sustainability goals. The project underlines the importance of strong partnerships in advancing large-scale offshore wind developments, with both SRE and Siemens Gamesa committed to long-term cooperation and local industry growth.
