Wedoany.com Report-Oct. 3, Sonnedix, a global renewable energy producer, has acquired five projects totaling 226 MW from Capital Dynamics, significantly expanding its presence in Italy. This acquisition increases Sonnedix’s operational capacity in the country to over 800 MW, with four of the newly acquired assets already operational in Sicily and Lazio.

With approximately 500 MW of projects currently under construction, Sonnedix is on track to achieve 1 GW of operational capacity in Italy by the end of the year. The company’s 1.1 GW development pipeline is expected to double its capacity to 2 GW within three years, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable energy growth.

Sonnedix has also entered Italy’s battery storage market, initiating its first project—a 18 MW/4-hour system in Sicily, co-located with a 70 MW photovoltaic plant under construction. This move highlights the company’s focus on integrating innovative energy storage solutions to enhance grid reliability and renewable energy utilization.

Axel Thiemann, CEO of Sonnedix, stated: “These latest acquisitions are a testament to our long-term commitment to delivering clean, affordable, and reliable energy to customers. Looking ahead, our focus is on continuing to convert our pipeline, particularly exploring opportunities in battery storage and hybridisation.”

Mario Volpe, head of growth for southern Europe, added: “With a strong pipeline of projects currently under construction, we are accelerating towards our target of 2GW operational capacity by the end of 2028. As we grow, we continue focusing on developing battery energy storage solutions and delivering a long-term, reliable, and 100% renewable supply of energy.”

The expansion strengthens Sonnedix’s role in Italy’s renewable energy sector, supporting the country’s transition to sustainable energy sources. By advancing both solar and battery storage projects, Sonnedix aims to provide consistent, eco-friendly energy solutions, contributing to economic growth and environmental sustainability in the region.

This strategic acquisition and focus on innovative technologies position Sonnedix to meet rising energy demands while enhancing the reliability and efficiency of renewable energy systems in Italy.
