Wedoany.com Report-Sept. 28, Mar Chao, President of Valenciaport, highlighted the evolving role of port facilities as critical hubs for energy transition, digitalization, and innovation during her speech at the 10th World Forum of Cities and Logistics Platforms, held on September 24 and 25 at the Port Authority of Valencia (APV) facilities in Spain. The event gathered companies and institutions from the logistics sector, including a significant number of representatives from Latin America and the Caribbean.
Chao emphasized that innovation is essential for ports, stating: “Innovation is now a requirement, not an option, for the port sector and must be fully integrated into operational practices.” She described ports as vital drivers of economic and technological transformation, facilitating global trade and sustainable development.
Valenciaport handles 7.5 million tonnes of traffic with Latin America, accounting for 9.3% of its operations. Chao expressed confidence in surpassing 10% through enhanced collaboration, saying: “We collaborate, but we can collaborate more, we can generate more value, we can be more dynamic.” She identified improvements in speed, traceability, energy efficiency, and safety as key to achieving this goal.
Chao stressed the importance of collaboration and knowledge sharing in the logistics and port sectors to address challenges in an uncertain global environment. She noted: “In a globalised world where everything is connected and where all links in the logistics chain are therefore involved, individual solutions do not solve many problems, and it is therefore necessary to think about solutions that are useful for everyone as a group. As our Strategic Plan states: Together, further.” She underscored cooperation as essential for resilience, stating: “It may be the only thing that will save us.”
Sustainability was a key focus, with Chao highlighting Valenciaport’s efforts to develop solutions for energy transition and environmental challenges. The port’s strategic initiatives aim to strengthen its role as a logistics link between Europe and Latin America, fostering economic growth and resilience through collaborative and innovative approaches.
The forum provided a platform for global stakeholders to discuss advancements in logistics, reinforcing Valenciaport’s commitment to sustainable and efficient operations. By prioritizing innovation and collaboration, the port aims to enhance its contribution to global trade and support regional economic development.
