Wedoany.com Report-Nov. 14, Agro Harvest Cultivation (Pvt.) Ltd has launched its first batch of export-grade vermicompost fertiliser, marking a notable development in Sri Lanka’s organic agriculture sector. The company recently inaugurated its new production facility in Matale, which introduces a modern and environmentally friendly approach to sustainable farming. The plant is equipped with advanced machinery imported from China and has already produced more than 150 metric tonnes of organic fertiliser. All production and microbial processing follow both local and international quality standards to ensure high-grade fertiliser suited for global markets.
As the first Sri Lankan company to export vermicompost fertiliser, Agro Harvest Cultivation has secured an initial order of 500 tonnes from the State of Dubai. Several European countries have also expressed interest in purchasing the product, and discussions are ongoing with China to expand export channels. The company has received all required approvals from the National Plant Quarantine Service, National Fertiliser Secretariat and the Agriculture Department to begin exporting.
For domestic distribution, the fertiliser is already available through Agro Harvest Cultivation branches in Negombo, Matara, Akuressa, Matale, Dambulla, Ampara, Dehiattakandiya, Batticaloa and Jaffna. The company plans to introduce the product to major supermarket chains nationwide and establish additional production centres in multiple regions. These expansions are expected to create new employment opportunities and support rural communities.
Nalaka Silva, a senior representative of Agro Harvest Cultivation, highlighted concerns about rising global health issues and the role of chemical inputs in food production. He stated: “A significant portion of the global population is suffering from chronic diseases such as kidney failure, cancer and other non-communicable illnesses. The excessive use of chemical substances in food production is a key reason for this.” He added: “Many countries have fully transitioned to organic agriculture and even India now produces over 50 percent of its crops using organic fertilisers. In this context, we are proud to have successfully implemented a long-term plan designed for the well-being of our people.”
Agro Harvest Cultivation continues to focus on improving agricultural productivity, strengthening support for farmers and advancing sustainable practices. The company offers a broad portfolio of products and services that contribute to agricultural development in both domestic and international markets.
