Wedoany.com Report-Nov. 21, Kenya has approved the upgrade of the 23.5 km Muthaiga–Kiambu–Ndumberi road on the northern side of Nairobi from a single carriageway to a modern dual carriageway. The project will significantly increase traffic capacity and reduce congestion and travel delays for commuters in one of the capital’s busiest corridors.

The development includes construction of access roads, grade-separated interchanges, and dedicated infrastructure for pedestrians and cyclists, ensuring safer and more efficient movement for all road users.

Currently, the existing route experiences severe traffic buildup during peak hours, affecting thousands of daily commuters traveling to and from residential areas, business districts, and surrounding counties. The expanded dual carriageway is designed to accommodate growing traffic volumes and improve overall connectivity in the northern part of Nairobi.

Once completed, the upgraded highway will provide smoother and faster journeys, enhance road safety, and support economic activity by facilitating the reliable movement of people and goods. The inclusion of non-motorised transport facilities reflects a balanced approach to urban mobility in the rapidly expanding metropolitan area.

Work on the Muthaiga–Kiambu–Ndumberi dual carriageway is expected to begin following final procurement and contractor selection, marking a major step forward in Nairobi’s ongoing efforts to modernise its road network and ease pressure on key transport corridors.
