Wedoany.com Report-Dec.20, Bombardier (BBDb.TO) announced on December 19, 2025, that its Global 8000 business jet has obtained type certification from the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration. This aircraft represents the fastest civilian model in operation since the retirement of the Concorde.

The Global 8000 achieves a maximum speed of Mach 0.95, equivalent to approximately 729 miles per hour. It also offers an industry-leading range of 8,000 nautical miles and features the lowest cabin altitude in its class, at 2,691 feet when cruising at 41,000 feet.

The ultra-long-range jet entered service earlier in December 2025, following type certification from Transport Canada on November 5, 2025. Approval from the European Union Aviation Safety Agency remains in process, according to the company.

"This accomplishment is a direct result of the commitment to excellence and dedicated work of our highly skilled employees, suppliers, Transport Canada and the FAA for a collaborative, effective process," said Stephen McCullough, Senior Vice President, Engineering and Product Development, Bombardier. "Attaining the Global 8000 certification from the FAA sets new performance standards in the industry and marks one of the final chapters in our very successful development program for this groundbreaking business jet."

FAA certification enables operations and deliveries within the United States, the largest market for business aviation. The first Global 8000 was delivered earlier this month to a Canadian customer, marking the start of customer operations.

Powered by advanced GE Passport engines and equipped with a Smooth Flĕx Wing design incorporating leading-edge slats, the aircraft provides enhanced short-field performance, allowing access to a broader range of airports compared to similar models. Its four-zone cabin layout supports extended flights with improved passenger comfort, including advanced air purification and lighting systems.

This milestone completes a key phase in the program's progression, building on the platform of the established Global 7500 while introducing superior speed and range capabilities. The Global 8000 positions Bombardier at the forefront of ultra-long-range business aviation, facilitating nonstop connections between distant city pairs worldwide.

Aviation experts recognize the certification as a significant achievement, reflecting rigorous testing and regulatory collaboration. It supports continued innovation in high-performance private aircraft, meeting demands for efficiency, luxury, and global connectivity in the sector.
