Italian energy engineering company Saipem has recently signed a new contract worth approximately $425 million with the Turkish Petroleum Offshore Technology Center. According to the contract, Saipem will undertake additional engineering, procurement, construction, and installation work for the development of Turkey's largest Sakarya Gas Field.

This approved contract is an extension of the third-phase development plan for the Sakarya Gas Field. Saipem will be responsible for laying three subsea pipelines with a total length of approximately 153 kilometers and installing related subsea structures to connect the recently discovered reserves at the Göktürk Field with the existing third-phase facilities of the Sakarya Field. The Göktürk Field is located at a water depth of about 2,200 meters, approximately 80 kilometers away from the Sakarya third-phase facilities. The newly constructed pipeline infrastructure will help increase natural gas production in the region.

The contract execution period is expected to be two and a half years and will proceed concurrently with the main third-phase contract signed by Saipem in September this year. Offshore pipeline laying operations are scheduled to be carried out by Saipem's pipelay vessel "Castorone" in the second half of 2027. The Sakarya Gas Field is located in the Black Sea waters of Turkey, about 170 kilometers off the Filyos coast of Zonguldak Province. The core of its third-phase development involves building a dedicated floating production unit, which will transport natural gas from the Sakarya and Amasra fields to onshore processing facilities via newly constructed pipelines.
