On February 25, 2026, Lithium Africa Corp. (TSXV: LAF) announced the signing of a definitive agreement to acquire the Springbok Lithium Project in South Africa. The project includes a past-producing spodumene mine, related ore stockpiles, and 1,675 square kilometers of land within a known LCT pegmatite region.

CEO Tyron Breytenbach stated, "The acquisition of the Springbok Lithium Project provides Lithium Africa with an advanced brownfield operation, complementing the company's early-stage exploration assets in Africa. Our geological team identified 30 new spodumene-bearing pegmatites during due diligence. Additionally, over 30,000 tonnes of stockpiled material can serve as a near-term cash flow source, supporting non-dilutive exploration capital."

Regarding the transaction terms, Lithium Africa plans to acquire a 70% stake in Namli Exploration & Mining Proprietary Limited in stages. The consideration includes $1.35 million in cash, $150,000 to settle third-party claims, and $2.5 million payable over 24 months. Namli holds the exploration rights and mining license for the Springbok project.

The Springbok Lithium Project is located in the Namaqualand region of the Northern Cape Province, South Africa, with good accessibility but low population density. The project includes the past-producing Norrabees lithium pegmatite mine and its historical production stockpiles, situated within an active 5-hectare mining license, with surrounding exploration rights offering regional exploration potential.

According to a 2024 technical report, the Springbok project hosts inferred mineral resources, including in-situ pegmatites and stockpile materials, totaling approximately 71,679 tonnes with an average Li₂O grade of 1.27%. Historical drilling and metallurgical testing indicate good lithium mineralization potential, but the company notes these data are historical estimates requiring further verification.

In regional exploration, the Springbok Lithium Project covers over 20 kilometers of mineralized pegmatite trends. Reconnaissance mapping in 2025 identified 30 newly discovered spodumene-bearing pegmatites. Lithium Africa plans further studies to define high-grade targets for detailed exploration.

The technical information has been reviewed and approved by the company's Vice President of Exploration, Benjamin Gelber. Lithium Africa has established a joint venture partnership with GFL International Co., Ltd. and holds exploration assets in several African regions.
