Wedoany.com Report on Mar 16th, Swiss biomaterials company Seprify recently announced that its high-performance cellulose platform has completed pilot validation and is now officially transitioning to procurable industrial supply, aiming to meet market demand for bio-based alternative materials. This progress enables manufacturers to move from the testing phase to repeatable procurement and long-term commercial contracts, particularly in sectors such as cosmetics, personal care, food, pet food, and coatings.
Supported by Inter IKEA Group, Seprify's platform has been validated at Technology Readiness Levels 7-9 through industry collaboration and is now entering the supplier qualification and early commercial contract phase. The company is collaborating with over 100 client organizations, covering the entire process from initial assessment to early commercial supply.
To support its scaling expansion, Seprify has raised €13.4 million (approximately 12.25 million Swiss Francs) in Series A funding from strategic and financial investors. Investors include Inter IKEA Group, Una Terra Early Growth Fund, Zürcher Kantonalbank, Cambridge Enterprise Ventures, Kickfund, and other circular economy-oriented institutions. The new capital will be used to drive commercial production to several hundred tons per year through manufacturing partners, accelerate market deployment, and advance engineering development for future industrial-scale capacity.
Lukas Schertel, Co-founder and CEO of Seprify, stated: "This funding allows us to focus on execution and scaling. Our top priority is to deliver consistent quality and reliable supply that meets the operational standards of large industrial clients. In the short term, this will support the cosmetics, personal care, food, and pet food sectors; we are also expanding into higher-volume applications such as coatings and printed electronics, demonstrating the broad potential of the cellulose platform."
Robert Carleke, Innovation Venture Manager at Inter IKEA Group, added: "At IKEA, we seek solutions that can replace high-impact materials and integrate into existing systems. Seprify's cellulose platform has reached a level of maturity that makes it a credible path to explore for applications like coatings, with scalability for industrial use. We look forward to this project."
Seprify's platform combines process expertise, application know-how, and strong intellectual property. Its flagship products include SilvaLuma for cosmetics and SilvaAlba, a food-grade whitening solution designed as a scalable alternative to titanium dioxide.
