Wedoany.com Report on Mar 19th, Cassava Technologies Group has initiated the deployment of its "AI Factory" based on the NVIDIA artificial intelligence platform in South Africa and plans to extend this project to African countries such as Nigeria, Kenya, Egypt, and Morocco. The concept of the AI Factory was introduced in March 2025, aiming to utilize NVIDIA accelerated computing and AI software to build the first such facility within an African data center.

The group stated in a declaration: "With this first milestone, Cassava Technologies will ensure Africa has its own intelligent production – sovereign AI factories will keep intelligence securely on the continent, adapt models to local languages and cultures, and foster local employment, startup growth, and economic development." The data center upgrade aims to assist African businesses, governments, and researchers in more easily developing AI products and optimizing operations, with the goal of transforming Africa's role in the global AI landscape from a passive participant to an active creator.
Ahmed El Beheiry, Chief Operating Officer and Chief Technology & AI Officer of Cassava Technologies Group, stated: "Our goal is to provide Africa with the infrastructure to build its digital heritage in its own way, using its own languages – starting with Swahili, then expanding to languages like Zulu and Afrikaans to better serve local users and markets – and its own data." Dr. Happy Sithole, Manager of the National Integrated Cyberinfrastructure System Centre at South Africa's Council for Scientific and Industrial Research, commented that the launch of the Cassava AI Factory is a significant step for African digital sovereignty: "Keeping data on the African continent enables us to develop specialized models for healthcare, energy, and agriculture that are tailored to our unique environment."
In recent years, Cassava Technologies has continued to strengthen its investments in the AI field. In January 2026, the company partnered with AXON Networks to launch an Operator-as-a-Service platform to promote AI applications in Africa. In November 2025, the Cassava AI Multimodal Exchange Platform went live, aiming to help African developers access AI tools and large language models. Additionally, the Cassava Autonomous Network was launched earlier this month to enhance the performance of African mobile network operators. At the Africa Tech Festival last November, Cassava Technologies announced Africa's first GPU-as-a-Service based on NVIDIA technology, providing remote access to GPUs in local data centers. Founder Strive Masiyiwa revealed that the company has acquired 12,000 NVIDIA GPUs. Since establishing its dedicated AI business unit, Cassava AI, in August 2024, the group has been serving over 40 markets in Africa, the Middle East, and Latin America.
