en.Wedoany.com Reported - Malaysia's Yinson Production announced that it has commissioned a Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) unit on the Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessel "Agogo". This is the world's first post-combustion carbon dioxide capture unit installed on an offshore facility, an achievement made possible through the collaboration of Yinson Production, Azule Energy, and Carbon Circle.

Azule Energy introduced that this CCS system operates using the open-source CESAR1 solvent. CESAR1 is a novel amine-based hybrid solvent developed through years of academic research, international pilot projects, and global R&D collaborations. It features low regeneration energy consumption and fast reaction rates, making it suitable for large-scale offshore deployment.

Azule Energy stated: "The partners have completed the system integration and commissioning based on the CESAR1 solvent, overcoming practical challenges such as compact space layout and operational difficulties. This project strongly demonstrates that when industry players collaborate, they can deliver viable climate solutions for the offshore oil and gas sector."

It is reported that the Agogo FPSO has a daily oil production capacity of 120,000 barrels and a storage capacity of 1.6 million barrels. It is Angola's first carbon-neutral FPSO and the core facility of the Agogo Integrated West Hub project. The project is operated by Azule Energy, which holds a 36.84% stake. Partners include Sonangol P&P (36.84%) and Sinopec International (26.32%).

It is worth noting that the Agogo FPSO was originally a 320,000 DWT VLCC built in 2009. It underwent conversion successively at two Chinese shipyards, China Rongsheng Daxie and Shanghai COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry, and was completed and set sail from Shanghai in February 2025.
