en.Wedoany.com Reported - The Indonesian Ministry of Environment and the Environmental Control Agency (KLH/BPLH) are accelerating the construction of Waste-to-Energy Plants (PSEL) in West Java to alleviate local waste pressure and support national energy goals. This initiative is being advanced under Presidential Regulation No. 109 of 2025 and implemented jointly by the West Java Provincial Government and local governments such as Greater Bandung, Bogor, and Depok.
Environment Minister Hanif Faisol Nurofiq stated that the waste management situation in West Java remains severe, with approximately 25,660 tons of waste generated daily. However, only about 15% is currently properly managed, with the rest remaining in an unmanaged state. Hanif pointed out that accelerating PSEL construction is a crucial step in addressing West Java's waste issues.
In the Greater Bandung area, the government will advance the construction of two PSEL facilities, located in Legok Nangka and Sarimukti, with a combined daily processing capacity of 3,515 tons. These will serve the waste disposal needs of Bandung City, Cimahi City, Bandung Regency, West Bandung Regency, Cianjur Regency, and Purwakarta Regency. Meanwhile, the Bogor-Depok area will also enhance its processing capacity through a PSEL facility in Kayumanis, Bogor City, designed to handle 1,000 tons per day, primarily serving the waste management needs of Bogor and Depok.
West Java Governor Didi Mulyadi stated that this project provides a new pathway to address long-standing waste problems and also helps convert waste into electrical energy. Hanif emphasized that the smooth progress of the PSEL project depends not only on technical solutions but also on the cooperation of local governments in terms of land provision, stable waste supply, and transportation systems. Local governments must also ensure that waste entering the PSEL meets processing standards and that unsuitable materials such as B3 waste, glass, PVC, and aluminum foil are removed.
The Ministry of Environment stated that this cooperation demonstrates the synergy between central and local governments in waste governance. With the accelerated implementation of the West Java PSEL project, stakeholders hope it will become a significant step in Indonesia's waste management transformation and contribute to achieving the 2029 target of 100% waste processing.
