en.Wedoany.com Reported - On April 17, Dong Baotong, Vice Minister of Ecology and Environment and Administrator of the National Nuclear Safety Administration, led the Chinese delegation in completing the review of China's National Report at the Tenth Review Meeting of the Convention on Nuclear Safety held at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) headquarters in Vienna. China's implementation of the Convention was highly commended by all Contracting Parties.
More than 1,000 representatives from 87 Contracting Parties attended the review meeting. During the country group review, the delegation comprehensively presented China's nuclear safety situation and achievements in nuclear safety regulation, and candidly responded to questions from all Contracting Parties. It actively demonstrated China's continuous efforts, as a major nuclear power country, to consistently prioritize safety in the development of nuclear power, continuously advance the modernization of the nuclear safety regulatory system, optimize strategies, enhance effectiveness, continuously strengthen international cooperation, and build a community with a shared future for nuclear safety.
All Contracting Parties unanimously agreed that China has achieved and maintained a high level of nuclear safety with remarkable performance. They highly commended China's four initiatives: the multi-dimensional nuclear safety risk assessment dialogue and coordination mechanism, the holistic solution for water intake safety, the industrial and regulatory application of artificial intelligence, and the comprehensive verification and regulation of high-temperature gas-cooled reactors, unanimously recognizing them as good practices worthy of global promotion and reference. Additionally, three other initiatives by China were rated as good performances: nuclear power plants actively conducting peer reviews, conducting unscripted emergency drills, and ensuring the high-quality construction of nuclear power projects on time and within budget.
During the meeting, the delegation held talks with representatives from major Contracting Parties such as France, Russia, the United States, the United Kingdom, Kazakhstan, Pakistan, and South Africa, as well as with IAEA officials, engaging in in-depth exchanges on issues of common concern. Furthermore, on April 15—China's National Security Education Day—the delegation, together with the Chinese Permanent Mission to Vienna, jointly organized a side event titled "Sharing Good Practices, Building a Community with a Shared Future for Nuclear Safety—China's Practices and Experiences in Nuclear Power Safety Management and Regulation," actively promoting China's latest practices and successful experiences in nuclear safety regulation.
