en.Wedoany.com Reported - UK company Utranazz has launched an electric retrofit system aimed at addressing engine idling in mixer truck fleets. The system, named Ultradrive, replaces traditional hydraulic drives, allowing the mixing drum to operate independently of the truck's engine. Upon arriving at the construction site, the truck engine is turned off, and the electric system powers the mixing drum.

Reportedly, mixer trucks can spend up to 70% of their operating time idling, and the electric retrofit system can significantly reduce energy consumption. Utranazz states that the system can lower energy consumption by 70%. A trial on a 31-tonne mixer truck showed a 30% fuel savings over two months. During 818 total hours of operation, the truck worked for 270 hours with the engine turned off.

The electric retrofit system is designed as a lightweight kit, compatible with most existing chassis, making it suitable for fleet upgrades without the need to purchase new vehicles. In addition to fuel savings, the system also reduces engine wear, lowers maintenance costs, and decreases on-site noise, which is particularly valued by urban construction sites. The first UK mixer truck equipped with the Ultradrive will be exhibited at the ScotPlant 2026 show from April 24 to 25, 2026.
