en.Wedoany.com Reported - Avangrid, Inc., a U.S. energy company, announced that its Tower Solar project in Morrow County, Oregon, has completed construction and connected to the regional grid, with commercial operations expected this summer. The project has a capacity of 166 megawatts direct current (120 megawatts alternating current) and uses over 250,000 solar panels assembled by SEG Solar at its manufacturing facility in Houston.

Once commissioning activities are complete, the project will supply power to Portland General Electric (PGE) and support QTS operations in the region. Avangrid CEO Jose Antonio Miranda stated that as electricity demand continues to grow in the United States and the Pacific Northwest, projects like Tower Solar are crucial for delivering new generation capacity at scale. This project demonstrates how U.S. power infrastructure investments can contribute to the domestic economy, support union workers, and provide reliable power to support regional growth.
SEG Solar CEO Jim Wood said that as a leading U.S. solar manufacturer, SEG Solar supports Tower Solar with high-performance modules made in America, an initiative aligned with the mission to strengthen the domestic energy supply chain. By providing fully compliant, traceable, and reliable solar solutions, the project meets energy needs while promoting U.S. manufacturing and creating local jobs.
Tower Solar is located west of Boardman, Oregon, on approximately 900 acres of industrial land owned by the Port of Morrow. Avangrid created about 200 construction jobs during the project, most of which were filled by regional union labor. IBEW Local 112 Business Manager Travis Sellers said that Local 112 members brought unparalleled skill, safety, and productivity to the project, and collaboration with Avangrid and its contractors has resulted in another energy project that will power the community for generations.
The project is expected to pay approximately $20 million in Payments in Lieu of Taxes (PILOTs) and property taxes, revenue that will directly support local communities, helping fund public services such as education. Tower Solar will supply power to the PGE grid through the Green Future Impact (GFI) program. GFI is a voluntary program designed to help large municipal, commercial, and industrial customers achieve their sustainability goals by developing new clean energy facilities. All customers can benefit from this energy, but program participants pay an additional cost for their chosen clean energy without increasing costs for other customers.
Avangrid operates over 11 gigawatts of installed capacity across its portfolio spanning 25 states, including nearly 100 energy projects.
