en.Wedoany.com Reported - Gás Verde (a biomethane producer) has partnered with German multinational building materials manufacturer Knauf on biomethane supply. The renewable gas will be used at Knauf's plant in Queimados, a city in the metropolitan region of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, which primarily produces drywall systems.

Under the agreement, the Knauf Queimados plant will receive 13,000 cubic meters of biomethane per day, or 4.7 million cubic meters per year, accounting for one-third of the plant's total energy consumption. The contract has a three-year term, with supply set to begin in June 2026. Both parties stated that there is potential to expand the supply volume, as the plant's remaining energy needs are still met by fossil natural gas, and the two are interchangeable. By using biomethane, the plant is expected to reduce emissions by approximately 9,500 tonnes of CO2 equivalent annually, totaling 28,500 tonnes of CO2 equivalent over the entire contract period, equivalent to planting 182,000 trees during this time. This will be Knauf's first plant globally to adopt biomethane.

Gás Verde CEO Marcel Jorand expressed the company's delight in supporting Knauf's efforts to decarbonize its production and hopes this marks just the beginning of their collaboration.

Eduardo Eleuterio, CEO of Knauf Brazil, stated that the partnership with Gás Verde is a leadership milestone for the company, making the Queimados plant the first in the group to use biomethane globally. He noted that the collaboration secures one-third of the plant's energy needs and enables rapid production increases thanks to the full interchangeability of biomethane with natural gas, calling it a strategic decision to accelerate decarbonization and enhance operational resilience and competitiveness in Brazil.
