en.Wedoany.com Reported - The 20 MW green hydrogen plant Djewels in Delfzijl, Groningen province, the Netherlands, has officially entered the construction phase. Project developer Power2X has made a final investment decision and issued a notice to proceed for the project. This is the first project to enter the construction phase since Power2X acquired HyCC earlier this year, with production planned to start in 2028.

The plant is located within the Delfzijl chemical park, connected to Nobian's facilities. Nobian will continue as a strategic partner during the construction and operation phases. The facility is designed to produce approximately 2,000 tonnes of green hydrogen annually, supplying local industrial customers, using pressurized alkaline electrolysis technology provided by John Cockerill.
Engineering, procurement, and construction have been assigned to Rely, a joint venture between Technip Energies and John Cockerill, which also assumes performance guarantees and delivery certainty. The project has received support from the Province of Groningen, the Waddenfonds, the EU Clean Hydrogen Partnership, and the Dutch KGG Ministry, with all necessary permits in place.
Power2X states that the project aims to validate a more efficient hydrogen production model, which can be scaled up in the future with lower costs and a smaller footprint.
The company views Djewels as part of a series of initiatives to build clean industrial assets in Northwest Europe, efforts that help position the Netherlands as a hydrogen hub in the industrial and energy transition.
