en.Wedoany.com Reported - CS Energy has selected engineering company Monadelphous Group, signing a contract worth AU$380 million (approximately US$267.6 million) for Monadelphous to undertake the balance-of-plant scope for the 400 MW Brigalow Peaking Power Plant near Chinchilla, Queensland, Australia.

The balance-of-plant contract includes civil and mechanical works, piping installation, and the installation of gas turbines. The gas-fired peaking power plant will be built adjacent to CS Energy's existing Kogan Creek Power Station and is designed to provide fast-start electricity during peak periods to support the reliability of Queensland's power grid. The plant can be operational within five minutes and can supply power to over 150,000 homes during periods of high demand. The Brigalow Peaking Power Plant is expected to commence operations in early 2029, subject to the successful completion of final commissioning.

The plant will be equipped with 12 GE Vernova aeroderivative turbines, each with a capacity of 33 MW, fueled by natural gas from Senex Energy's Atlas project. The fuel will be delivered to the site via a proposed 21 km APA pipeline, which connects to the Roma-to-Brisbane pipeline.

CS Energy Acting CEO Tony Bellas stated that fast-start gas peaking plants like Brigalow will play a crucial role in Queensland's future, as they can provide power for longer durations, complementing shorter-duration batteries and intermittent renewable energy sources. He expressed pleasure in partnering with Monadelphous, describing it as an experienced contractor in the Australian market with deep capabilities in the energy and mining sectors. The Brigalow project is part of the Queensland Government's Energy Roadmap, which includes investments in coal and gas-fired generation to strengthen domestic energy security and meet Queensland's electricity demand.

Monadelphous Managing Director Zoran Bebic said he was delighted to collaborate with CS Energy on building the Brigalow Peaking Power Plant, supporting a reliable and flexible energy supply. Monadelphous has a strong track record in delivering large-scale energy construction projects and is proud to continue contributing to critical energy infrastructure across Australia.

Additionally, contractor CMC has completed the initial site preparation works package, delivering site access and upgrading nearby intersections. The next step involves commencing large-scale earthworks to form the main construction platform. Following the completion of large-scale earthworks, Monadelphous is expected to begin the balance-of-plant works package in the third quarter of 2026. CS Energy is in the final stages of establishing a partnership with APA Group: CS Energy will operate and maintain the plant and hold a 20% stake, while APA will hold an 80% stake and contract its share back to CS Energy through a 25-year hedge offtake agreement.
