Wedoany.com Report-Apr 4, The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in the Philippines has recently completed two significant road-widening projects in Del Gallego Town, Camarines Sur, to alleviate traffic congestion on national roads. These projects, led by Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan and Project Director Virgilio C. Eduarte, focus on enhancing road safety and traffic flow by expanding roadways and implementing flood control measures.

The widening projects took place across 11 months.

The first project involves the Andaya Highway, where sections were widened from two lanes to four. These improvements include the installation of reinforced concrete box culverts and storm drains to control floods, as well as metal guardrails, sidewalks, and reflectorised thermoplastic pavement markings to enhance road safety. The engineering team, led by District Engineer Ramon Anselmo C. Calagos, completed the 11-month project, starting in February 2024 and finishing in January 2025. Bonoan emphasized that these changes are particularly beneficial during the holiday season, when Andaya Highway becomes the primary route for motorists heading to other parts of the Bicol Region.

In addition to road improvements, the DPWH has also successfully completed a flood-control project for the residents of Baseco Compound in Manila’s Port Area. This fourth phase of the project, costing 96.49 million pesos, extends slope protection along the riverside by 272.8 linear meters. This initiative, developed by DPWH National Capital Region director Loreta M. Malaluan, aims to mitigate river overflow and flooding while also addressing soil erosion and improving water quality. The project ran from May 2024 to January 2025 and serves as a crucial defense against natural disasters.

Furthermore, DPWH has recently finished constructing an access road to the Rolling Hills in Ramon, Isabela Province. This milestone marks another step forward in the country’s infrastructure development, showcasing the department’s commitment to improving road connectivity and accessibility.
