en.Wedoany.com Reported - Mehdi Nezzar, the newly elected mayor of Le Bourget, France, has called for the cancellation of plans by commercial real estate company Segro to build a 75MW data center on the site of the former H&M warehouse in the city.
The building permit for the project was approved by the previous administration, but additional public consultation and studies on noise and air pollution are still required.
The Regional Environmental Authority (Les missions régionales d'autorité environnementale, MRAe) has raised several concerns about the proposal, including the planned use of R1234ze refrigerant. Although marketed as low-emission, this refrigerant belongs to the PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) "forever chemicals" family and is harmful to the environment. The MRAe also questioned the site's limited heat recovery plan—Segro stated it would recover 12MW of heat from the data center's 75MW electricity consumption—as well as the facility's impact on air quality.

The data center, covering 25,300 square meters (272,325 square feet), will include three buildings and 33 backup generators.
A page promoting the project and indicating a Q3 2028 opening appears to have been removed from Segro's website. DCD has contacted the company for more information on the project's status.
A petition opposing the project has gathered 18,000 signatures, which may have influenced Mayor Nezzar's stance. The petition claims the data center could negatively impact nearby residential areas, schools, and daycare centers.
Segro is also advancing another 70MW data center project in the Val-de-Marne department, located in the southeastern suburbs of Paris.
