en.Wedoany.com Reported - Engie and Ignis have signed a long-term flexibility purchase agreement covering multiple battery storage projects in Spain with a total installed capacity of 625 MWh. The agreement has a 10-year term, under which Engie will obtain the flexibility provided by these batteries in the day-ahead market, while Ignis ensures revenue generated by the related assets and is responsible for operating and optimizing the batteries' participation in power system balancing services.
These batteries are scheduled to become operational in 2028. They will store energy during peak renewable generation hours and release it during periods of high electricity demand, thereby reducing exposure to market volatility. In 2025, Ignis became the first operator in Spain to independently operate standalone batteries in the market.
Santiago Bordiú, Head of Ignis Energy, stated that this transaction enables the company to "maximize the value of these assets by leveraging our expertise in balancing the power system," while "securing recurring revenue with a top-tier counterparty like Engie." Jean Nicolas Lejeune, Managing Director of Supply and Energy Management at Engie Iberia, noted that the agreement strengthens Engie's position in the Spanish battery storage market, as the company is utilizing its energy management platform to integrate batteries and bring their flexibility to the market.
