en.Wedoany.com Reported - H2air PX, the construction subsidiary of French H2air Group, has built a 13 MW floating solar power plant on the Oued Rmel dam reservoir near Ksar Sghir in northern Morocco. Located near the Tangier Mediterranean Port, the project primarily supplies electricity for the port's industrial and port operations. Delivered to Tanger Med Utilities after a 2023 tender, H2air PX claims this is the largest operational floating solar power plant in Africa.

The installation consists of three floating solar islands, covering a total area of 72,870 square meters. H2air PX states that the 13 MW installed capacity is equivalent to the electricity consumption of approximately 17,000 French residents. The water level of the reservoir where the plant is located varies between 35 meters and 79 meters, with a fluctuation range of 44 meters, requiring a customized design for the floating and anchoring systems. Since the reservoir also provides freshwater supply, the project is equipped with a water quality monitoring system to meet environmental requirements.
H2air PX is responsible for project coordination and engineering, including the integration of photovoltaic modules, inverters, and substations. Construction was completed by a consortium including EnergyDesign, responsible for civil engineering, site access, and equipment installation; Seaflex, providing the mooring system; and Profloating, the floating photovoltaic structure supplier.
Other operational floating solar power plants in Africa include Ghana's 5 MW Bui Dam project, as well as small-scale pilot and commercial systems in South Africa, Kenya, Tunisia, and Burundi. Founded in 2013, H2air PX has built over 360 MW of renewable energy capacity in France and internationally.
