Wang Pingwei stated that the Tsumeb smelter, in operation since 1963 for over 60 years, is an important industrial heritage site in Namibia. Sinomine Resource Group is implementing a modernization and upgrade of the facility, focusing on recovering multi-metals such as germanium, gallium, lead, and zinc from historical tailings and underutilized mineral resources. The project aims to address legacy mining pollution, remediate and revitalize mining land, while promoting the upgrade of local beneficiation and processing industries, achieving efficient resource utilization, creating job opportunities, introducing advanced technologies, and cultivating talent.
President Mbumba highly commended Sinomine's multi-metal recovery project at Tsumeb, stating that the project transforms smelting waste into high-value metal raw materials, aligning with the Namibian government's development goals of expanding local employment, introducing advanced process technologies, enhancing domestic industrial capacity, and increasing the added value of mineral product processing. The Namibian government and people welcome foreign enterprises with strong technical expertise and a commitment to green and sustainable development to participate in promoting the upgrade of local deep mineral processing industries, thereby driving local employment and economic growth.
