en.Wedoany.com Reported - Gunpo City, Gyeonggi Province, South Korea, announced on July 10, 2026, that its "Gunpo Complex Cultural Center" construction project has received "conditional approval" from the Central Investment Review of Local Finance under the Ministry of the Interior and Safety. Located on the former Wooshin Bus Parking Lot site in Sanbon-dong, Gunpo City, the project has an estimated total investment of 28.5 billion KRW (including 9 billion KRW in national and provincial government grants) and aims to build a comprehensive public facility integrating living sports and cultural exchange functions.
The Gunpo Complex Cultural Center is planned to cover an area of 4,535 square meters, with a proposed structure of two floors above ground and one floor below. Internal facilities will include a gym, swimming pool, yoga/dance studio, café, and other living sports and cultural convenience amenities. The site was purchased by the Gunpo City Government in 2012 but had been long delayed due to feasibility studies and administrative procedures.

According to the Gunpo City Government's implementation plan, soil pollution remediation on the project site is expected to be completed by the second half of 2027. Main construction is scheduled to officially begin in January 2028, with a target for completion in the second half of 2029. The review approval is conditional on completing soil pollution remediation before the start of main construction.
The passage of this central investment review marks the formal entry into substantive implementation for this long-stalled local cultural infrastructure project. Upon completion, it will significantly enhance the cultural and sports public service levels for residents of Sanbon-dong and surrounding areas in Gunpo City.
