en.Wedoany.com Reported - Polish rail freight operator PKP Cargo has signed a letter of intent with Centralny Port Komunikacyjny (CPK) to provide operational expertise in the infrastructure planning process led by CPK, supporting the design of the rail freight network under the Port Polska programme.

Under the letter of intent, the cooperation will cover the design of new railway lines, logistics terminals, sidings, and technical facilities related to the Port Polska programme. The two companies will jointly analyze intermodal development and freight traffic management, and evaluate potential locations for terminals and sidings. Additionally, the collaboration includes assessing the infrastructure needed to support freight operations associated with the planned airport.

Filip Czernicki, CEO of Centralny Port Komunikacyjny, stated that modern infrastructure needs to be designed in cooperation with its users. He noted that involving freight operators early in the planning process helps ensure the final infrastructure serves both passenger and freight traffic. Zbigniew Prus, President of PKP Cargo, pointed out that freight demand, especially related to intermodal services, should be considered before construction begins, rather than added afterward.

The Port Polska programme includes the construction of a new airport and a broader railway investment plan. CPK stated that the planned railway network should increase capacity, improve access to logistics terminals, and create more opportunities for intermodal transport. The letter of intent initiates a joint planning process, with no specific freight projects, terminal locations, or implementation timelines yet designated.
