en.Wedoany.com Reported - Southwest Airlines plans to add multiple new routes in spring 2027 to boost capacity for the back-to-school season. The carrier will set record highs for flights departing from Austin Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) and Orlando International Airport (MCO), while enhancing service at Nashville International Airport (BNA) and Las Vegas Harry Reid International Airport (LAS).

In Austin, Southwest's flight volume will reach record levels, with up to 141 daily flights on multiple days per week. In Orlando, total Saturday daily flights will reach 214, including a new third daily flight to New York LaGuardia Airport (LGA) and new service within Florida to Pensacola (PNS). New routes from Austin include: nonstop to Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW), four times weekly, operating Monday, Thursday, Friday, and Sunday; Saturday weekly service to San Jose (SJO); five weekly flights to Steamboat Springs, operating Monday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday; and a new route to Montrose (MTJ), five times weekly, operating Monday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. This brings Austin's flight volume to an all-time high, solidifying Southwest's position as the leading carrier at the airport.
Southwest's spring 2027 schedule also includes several new domestic routes: two daily round trips between Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI) and Philadelphia International Airport (PHL); Dallas Love Field (DAL) to Detroit; Nashville to Des Moines (DSM) and Wichita (ICT); and Las Vegas to Boston (BOS), Miami (MIA), Philadelphia, and Knoxville (TYS), with varying weekly frequencies for each route.

The carrier will also add multiple new routes to the Caribbean and Latin America, including Saturday-only flights from Nashville to Aruba (AUA), scheduled to launch in March, as well as routes to Liberia (LIR), Montego Bay (MBJ), St Thomas (STT), and Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ). A domestic route from Nashville to Columbus (CMH) will also be introduced. Additionally, Southwest will increase flights between Honolulu International Airport (HNL) and airports in Burbank (BUR) and Ontario (ONT), California, both operating five times weekly, every day except Tuesday and Wednesday. Weekend-only flights will be added from San Diego (SAN) to Kona (KOA) and Lihue (LIH). The plan also includes a red-eye reverse flight departing Las Vegas at 2:45 AM for Honolulu (HNL).
The new flight schedule shows a year-over-year increase in daily departures, averaging over 4,000 flights per day. Monday, Thursday, and Friday average 4,400 daily departures; Sunday 4,300; and Tuesday, Wednesday, and Saturday 4,000. Southwest has also canceled nonstop flights from Las Vegas to San Jose, Costa Rica, which were originally planned to operate daily starting in November. Other dropped routes include Kona to Kahului, Lihue to Kahului, and New York to Omaha. These adjustments are partly a response to Spirit Airlines' bankruptcy, such as the increase in Detroit routes. The enhanced Nashville service also helps alleviate pressure at Chicago Midway International Airport (MDW).
Southwest Airlines will launch 15 new routes in March 2027. As the world's largest low-cost carrier, the airline operates over 800 Boeing 737 aircraft, and all new services are now open for booking.
