Wedoany.com Report-Aug. 27, Amigo LNG, a joint venture between Texas-based Epcilon LNG and Singapore-based LNG Alliance, has awarded an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract to UAE-based Drydocks World for a floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) facility at its planned terminal in Guaymas, Sonora, Mexico. The contract, announced on August 26, covers the fabrication and delivery of the FLNG infrastructure and related floating storage units (FSUs) to support LNG operations.

Drydocks World will convert two LNG carriers into FSUs and construct two FLNG barges at its Dubai yard, utilizing advanced U.S.-based pre-treatment and liquefaction technologies. The facility, set to be operational in the second half of 2028, will deliver over 4.2 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) of liquefaction capacity, surpassing the capacity of existing global FLNG projects.

Muthu Chezhian, CEO of LNG Alliance, stated: “This EPC award represents a pivotal milestone for AMIGO LNG. By partnering with Drydocks World on the world’s largest FLNG facility, we are securing best-in-class quality, exceptional production capacity, and reliable long-term performance of this critical asset. We are also harnessing the key advantages of FLNG solutions — from faster project schedules to rigorous testing and seamless pre-commissioning in a controlled fabrication yard environment, as well as the substantial environmental benefits this approach delivers.”

Strategically positioned on Mexico’s west coast, the facility will utilize natural gas from the U.S. Permian Basin, enhancing Mexico’s role in global energy markets by enabling efficient LNG exports to Asia and Latin America via shorter shipping routes. This follows an earlier EPC contract awarded to COMSA Marine for the terminal’s marine infrastructure, including the LNG jetty, berthing, and mooring facilities.

Amigo LNG has also secured a 15-year sale and purchase agreement with Macquarie Group to supply 0.6 mtpa of LNG to its Commodities and Global Markets business, starting with the first liquefaction train in 2028. Michael Bennett, Managing Director at Macquarie, stated: “LNG is a critical component of the global energy mix, providing a reliable and flexible fuel source. This agreement reflects our commitment to meeting the diverse energy needs of our clients worldwide and demonstrates the strength of our offering in this space.”

Additional agreements include a 20-year deal with Gunvor for 0.85 mtpa and a prior 20-year contract with Sahara Group, reinforcing Amigo LNG’s commitment to meeting global energy demands. These partnerships and the FLNG facility position Guaymas as a key hub for sustainable energy exports.
