Wedoany.com Report-Nov. 6, CIMIC Group’s CPB Contractors has announced the completion of the Elizabeth Drive upgrade, a key component of the M12 West project in New South Wales (NSW), Australia. The upgrade forms part of the A$2.1 billion ($2.73 billion) toll-free M12 Motorway, which aims to enhance road connectivity across Western Sydney.
The Elizabeth Drive upgrade offers a three-lane dual carriageway along a 2.2km corridor.
The works involved the development of a three-lane dual carriageway along a 2.2km stretch of Elizabeth Drive. This section, now open to traffic, is designed to accommodate up to 28,000 vehicles daily. It provides a direct link to the Western Sydney International Airport and nearby areas including Badgerys Creek, Bradfield, Liverpool, and Kemps Creek, easing traffic flow and improving access to major regional hubs.
The project’s scope included constructing a new bridge over the Sydney Metro–Western Sydney Airport line and Warami Drive, conducting six major traffic switches, building two intersections, and performing extensive utility relocations. In total, the upgrade required more than 450,000m³ of fill, 24,000 tonnes of asphalt, and 8,500m³ of concrete. Over a period of 1,068 days, construction teams worked more than 12,000 labour hours while maintaining traffic flow to minimise disruption for local motorists and residents.
CPB Contractors project director Vishal Khosla said: “This is a critical milestone for the M12 West project and Western Sydney, preparing for the opening of the new airport and building infrastructure that will support growth for decades to come. What stands out is how the team pulled together with our client, utilities, and partners to get the job done safely and efficiently.”
The M12 Motorway project, which is being delivered in multiple sections, achieved another significant milestone in April 2025, when 14km of the road was completed and construction remained on schedule. Current efforts are focused on landscaping, installing road signage, and implementing safety measures along the completed section to ensure the motorway meets all operational and environmental standards.
The M12 Motorway, once fully completed, will span 16km and provide a vital east–west connection to Western Sydney’s major transport and economic zones. Authorities plan to open the entire route to the public in 2026, marking a major step in supporting the Western Sydney Airport’s opening and the region’s long-term development plans.
Transport for NSW has been working in collaboration with several delivery partners on the motorway, including Seymour Whyte and the CPB Georgiou Group joint venture, which have completed the central and western sections. The combined efforts reflect ongoing investment in infrastructure designed to enhance mobility, safety, and regional growth across New South Wales.
