Wedoany.com Report-Dec.1, Repower Energy Development Corporation has begun testing and commissioning its 18.2 MW run-of-river hydropower plant in the Philippines, marking the company’s first operational facility in Mindanao.
The plant, developed through its subsidiary Cabanglasan Hydropower Corporation, is situated along the Pulangi River at the boundary between Valencia City and San Fernando in Bukidnon province. The PHP 4.0 billion (approximately USD 68 million) project is designed to produce an average of 130 GWh of clean electricity annually—sufficient to supply power to more than 54,000 households once it enters full commercial operation.
This facility becomes Repower Energy’s ninth operating hydropower plant nationwide and strengthens the company’s renewable energy portfolio in the southern Philippines.
The company continues to expand its pipeline. Construction is progressing on the 4.5 MW Piapi hydropower project in Quezon Province, Luzon, with commercial operations targeted by the end of 2027. In the coming months, Repower Energy will also start building four additional hydropower projects, representing a combined capital investment of PHP 10.3 billion (USD 175.1 million).
These developments reflect sustained commitment to increasing the share of renewable energy in the Philippine power mix while supporting reliable and affordable electricity supply across different regions of the country. The successful commissioning of the Cabanglasan plant adds meaningful baseload renewable capacity in Mindanao, where demand continues to grow alongside economic activity.
Repower Energy remains focused on delivering hydropower projects that balance environmental responsibility with energy security objectives, contributing to the nation’s transition toward cleaner power generation sources.
