Wedoany.com Report on Feb 13th, the water treatment chemicals company Kemira Oyj recently announced its intention to acquire the German coagulant producer SIDRA Wasserchemie. This transaction is still subject to antitrust approval from the German Federal Cartel Office and is expected to be completed in the first half of 2026.
The acquisition price is approximately €75 million, with the final amount subject to closing adjustments. SIDRA Wasserchemie is a family-owned enterprise with two production sites in Germany, primarily supplying coagulant products to municipal and industrial clients in Germany, Belgium, and the Netherlands. In 2024, the company reported revenue of approximately €40 million and EBITDA of around €10 million. Following the completion of the transaction, SIDRA Wasserchemie's more than 60 employees are expected to join Kemira.
Tuija Pohjolainen-Hiltunen, Executive Vice President of Water Treatment Solutions at Kemira, stated: "The acquisition of SIDRA Wasserchemie is highly synergistic and represents another important step in achieving Kemira's goal of doubling its water treatment business revenue. This will expand the footprint and influence of our core business in Western and Central Europe, where we see growing demand for coagulants."
Coagulants are key chemicals in the treatment processes for municipal wastewater, industrial wastewater, and drinking water. This acquisition will strengthen Kemira's production footprint and customer responsiveness in the European water treatment chemicals market, while also expanding its business coverage in the German-speaking region and the Benelux countries.
Headquartered in Helsinki, Finland, Kemira's business covers pulp & paper and municipal & industrial water treatment. This acquisition is part of its water treatment business growth strategy, aiming to enhance regional market production capacity, scale, and supply chain efficiency through mergers and acquisitions integration.
