en.Wedoany.com Reported - As of 12:00 on May 27, the cumulative photovoltaic power generation at Ezhou Huahu International Airport has surpassed 100 million kWh.

Ezhou Huahu International Airport is China's first professional cargo hub airport. Since commencing operations in 2022, its cargo business has experienced rapid growth. To date, it has opened 119 cargo routes, with hub cargo volume climbing from less than 10,000 tonnes in the initial operational phase to 1.4781 million tonnes in 2025. Alongside business expansion, the airport's peak electricity load has also exceeded 20,000 kW.Aerial view of photovoltaic panels at Ezhou Huahu International Airport

He Ronghua, General Manager of the Airport Service Management Company of Hubei International Logistics Airport Co., Ltd., explained that to balance the high-load operational demands of the hub with a long-term green development philosophy, the airport anchored itself to a green and low-carbon positioning from the initial planning and construction stages. It deployed a power generation matrix consisting of 247,000 square meters of rooftop photovoltaic panels and 12,000 square meters of photovoltaic curtain walls, with a total installed capacity of 27.43 MW.

To ensure that the green electricity can be generated, utilized, and not wasted, the local power department has continuously strengthened the power grid framework in the airport area. Through the construction, expansion, and renovation of power transmission and transformation projects, a two-way channel for the local consumption and outward transmission of green electricity has been established.

A relevant official from the State Grid Ezhou Power Supply Company introduced that the power grid in the airport area has been upgraded from a single chain to a "ring network + dual power source" structure. It has also built the largest cluster of charging piles in Hubei Province, with 11 charging zones capable of simultaneously serving 278 electric vehicles, covering all types of airport operational vehicles such as cargo tractors and ground support vehicles.

During the day, the photovoltaic panels block sunlight and store green energy; at night, clean electricity powers the hub's operations. He Ronghua stated that in the future, the airport will continue to work with the power department to intensify power grid construction efforts and enhance green electricity consumption capacity, injecting stronger green momentum into building Ezhou Huahu International Airport into an inland "air gateway" to the world.
