en.Wedoany.com Reported - The American Center for Manufacturing & Innovation (ACMI) has initiated construction of a facility at the Maryland Energetics Innovation Hub (MEIH), a base focused on defense manufacturing and innovation, aimed at modernizing the research, development, testing, and large-scale production of key technologies and energetic materials for the U.S. military.

ACMI stated that the project is supported by an initial $50 million grant from the Naval Surface Warfare Center Indian Head Division (NSWC IHD), which is expected to generate over $200 million in additional private investment. The project will be built in phases, with ACMI anticipating the first operational facilities to be operational by 2027.

Located near NSWC IHD, the MEIH campus will house companies and research institutions focused on solving eight priority innovation areas for the U.S. military, including unmanned system energetic bodies, next-generation propulsion systems, and manufacturing automation. At the groundbreaking ceremony, ACMI announced that the Energetics Technology Center (ETC) and Applied Research Associates (ARA) will be the first tenants and partners, with additional tenants to be announced later.

"This initiative ensures that NSWC Indian Head Division remains at the forefront of energetic innovation, scale-up, and production," said Captain Steve Duba, Commander of NSWC IHD. "By bringing together government and industry partners in a collaborative environment, we can accelerate the development and deployment of critical capabilities, thereby strengthening the Navy's arsenal and the broader munitions industrial base."
