en.Wedoany.com Reported - The European Bitumen Association (Eurobitume) has released its Decarbonisation Roadmap, setting a decarbonisation pathway for Europe's road construction and asphalt production industries. The document establishes a collective target to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from bitumen production by 73% by 2050 compared to 1990 levels, emphasising the critical role of full value chain collaboration and supportive policy frameworks in the transition.

The roadmap assesses the potential of decarbonisation levers across the production chain, covering measures such as equipment electrification, low-carbon fuel application, and process efficiency improvements. It also highlights challenges in the transition, particularly the need for close collaboration with upstream partners due to the globally distributed supply chain. Eurobitume and its members are committed to contributing to Europe's climate goals through a pragmatic and realistic transition pathway. This roadmap is the first phase of Eurobitume's broader sustainability strategy, aiming to provide a basis for discussion on the decarbonisation of road infrastructure for policymakers, industry stakeholders, and the technical community.

Sergio Bovo, President of Eurobitume, stated that the roadmap is a significant milestone for the association and its members, demonstrating the industry's commitment to European decarbonisation while acknowledging the practical realities and challenges of the transition. Hervé Millet, Director General of Eurobitume based in Brussels, noted that developing the roadmap shows the collective dedication of all members to providing more environmentally friendly materials for European road infrastructure, hoping to foster constructive dialogue with policymakers and stakeholders across the value chain.

The roadmap was officially launched at Eurobitume's E&E event on 11 June and will be further promoted at industry events. As planned, a webinar open to all will be held on 9 September, with online registration available for participants. Representing its members, Eurobitume conducts education and promotion activities around the efficient, economical, effective, safe, and sustainable use of refined bitumen in road, industrial, and construction applications. It provides information and guidance on technical, health, safety, and environmental matters, creating a positive environment for sustained demand for bitumen by communicating product benefits to key audiences. Eurobitume has five expert committees and steering groups, each composed of subject matter experts from member companies, developing intensive work programmes to provide guidance and support to members and their customers.
