en.Wedoany.com Reported - United Airlines has launched daily scheduled commercial flights between Natchez and Houston, operated by United Express, marking the first regular flight service in the area in over three decades.
Natchez-Adams County Airport (code HEZ) transformed a 10,000-square-foot hangar into a modern passenger terminal within six months, equipped with Transportation Security Administration (TSA) screening, food vendors, and other standard facilities. Local residents attended a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the airport to celebrate the new route.

United Airlines operates the route using Bombardier CRJ-200 aircraft, each carrying 50 passengers. The Natchez Democrat reported that strong demand justifies this regional service.
United Airlines delivered its own ground equipment to the airport to support operations. Airport Director Carl Beasley revealed that a project typically taking one and a half to two years was completed in six months, with three semi-trucks loaded with SkyWest equipment arriving at the airport.
Aviation consultant Jeremiah Gerald's analysis of regional travelers showed that approximately 500 passengers daily had to drive to neighboring airports, including Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY), Jackson (JAN), Baton Rouge (BTR), and Houston airports. Popular destinations include Los Angeles (LAX), Denver International Airport (DEN), Orlando (MCO), and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL).

With this daily direct flight to Houston, Natchez residents can connect to over 200 destinations in United Airlines' network with just one transfer. The route received nearly $1 million in funding from the federal Small Community Air Service Development Program to offset startup losses. Airport officials said a single round-trip flight costs $3.3 million annually.
The new flight departs Houston daily at 11:55 a.m., with a flight time of 1 hour and 18 minutes, as flight UA5086, scheduled to arrive in Natchez at 1:13 p.m. The return flight UA5139 departs Natchez at 1:45 p.m., returning to Houston in 55 minutes, arriving at 3:05 p.m.

Natchez, Mississippi, is the only city in Adams County, located about 90 miles (140 kilometers) south of Baton Rouge, with a metropolitan population of approximately 53,000. Natchez-Adams County Airport (also known as Hardy-Anders Airport) is a public-use airport located 6 miles (11 kilometers) south of the city center. The last scheduled flights to this airport date back to 1994, when Lone Star Airlines operated Fairchild Swearingen Metroliner aircraft to Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW).
United Airlines began daily service to Natchez on July 1, marking a new era for the airport. After hangar conversion and rapid progress, the airport now has daily flight service with a major global airline, facilitating regional traveler access and supporting tourism, business, and trade activities.
