en.Wedoany.com Reported - Portos e Caminhos de Ferro de Moçambique (CFM) has initiated the expansion of the Beira oil terminal, aiming to increase its annual fuel handling capacity from 5 million tons to 7 million tons.
The expansion project includes the installation of two new 16-inch fuel pipelines and the construction of two loading hubs, each with a capacity of 2,000 cubic meters. Berthing times at the terminal have already been reduced, with the average vessel stay now at 3 days, and CFM plans to further compress this to between 1 and 1.5 days.
The upgraded infrastructure will increase the terminal's vessel throughput from 12 to approximately 15 ships per month. The additional capacity is intended to support the fuel supply chain for inland markets that rely on Beira as an import gateway.
Zimbabwe is CFM's largest rail customer for fuel along this corridor. The volume of fuel transported by rail to Zimbabwe has grown from 1.26 million tons in 2021 to 2.39 million tons in 2025.
Additionally, discussions are underway regarding the expansion of the Beira port cargo terminal. The proposed project would increase cargo handling capacity between Mozambique, Zimbabwe, and other regional markets.
