With the line entering preliminary preparations, India is poised to welcome its second high-speed railway following the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail corridor.

The tender, numbered NHSRCL/CBHSR/1276, includes tasks such as route alignment optimization, alignment design adjustments, hydrological surveys and measurements, drone surveys, geotechnical investigations at intersections, and the preparation of General Arrangement Drawings (GAD) for river, railway, and road crossings, tunnels, and stations. The work period is expected to be 150 days, with bid submission deadline set for August 13, 2026. Technical bids will be opened on August 14, and the bid security is 1.45 million Indian Rupees.

Tender Notice

The Chennai-Bengaluru High-Speed Rail project, spanning approximately 306 kilometers, is one of the second batch of high-speed rail projects planned in India, aiming to connect the two major southern economic hubs: Chennai, the capital of Tamil Nadu, and Bengaluru, the capital of Karnataka. The central government has included this line as a key high-speed rail corridor in the 2026 Union Budget. This preliminary study will provide critical data support for subsequent engineering design, land planning, and construction.

India's first high-speed rail, the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail corridor, is approximately 508 kilometers long, with a designed maximum speed of 320 km/h, utilizing Japanese Shinkansen technology. The project commenced in 2017 and was originally scheduled for completion in 2023. However, due to factors such as land acquisition delays, construction timeline extensions, and cost escalations, it is now expected to be commissioned in phases starting from August 2027. Additionally, India plans to construct seven new high-speed rail lines in the future, totaling nearly 4,000 kilometers, with an estimated total investment of up to 16 trillion Indian Rupees (approximately USD 174.1 billion).
