Following the opening of the new Ferris Road bridge on July 15, construction crews will work around the clock next month to complete the new elevated Melton Station and railway bridges over Coburns Road and Exford Road. From August 12 to August 31, sections of the Ballarat, Ararat, and Maryborough lines will be served by buses replacing trains.

When services resume on September 1, passengers will use the new accessible Melton Station. The station features two entrances and provides lifts and stairs via a 16-meter-wide station underpass, offering local residents a safe way to cross the railway line. Customer service and toilet facilities at the temporary station will remain available during ongoing construction in the station area.

Capacity on the Melton Line will be enhanced, with two of the four new platforms specifically designed for longer nine-car VLocity trains, which can operate on this line from next year, increasing peak-hour capacity by 50%. The new station has reserved space for future electrification of the Melton Line, allowing two platforms to be used by Metro services, with electric trains stabled at the Cobblebank depot under construction east of the station.

Exford Road will be closed at the level crossing from the evening of August 11 to August 31 to remove crossing gates, lower the road beneath the elevated railway line, and install the final bridge segments. After Exford Road reopens without crossing gates, Coburns Road will be temporarily closed at the level crossing from September 6 to September 24 to remove crossing gates and reconstruct the road and footpaths. Finishing work across the area will continue until later this year, including the construction of a seven-bay bus interchange, station facilities, forecourt, and landscaping.
