Wedoany.com Report-Aug. 8, Topsoe A/S, headquartered in Lyngby, Denmark, has been selected as the renewable diesel technology provider for CountryMark’s refinery in Mount Vernon, Indiana. This facility, located in southwestern Indiana, currently processes 35,000 barrels of crude oil per day. With the planned integration of Topsoe’s HydroFlex® technology, CountryMark aims to produce up to 250,000 barrels of renewable diesel annually.
The new unit is expected to significantly reduce emissions, with an estimated annual avoidance of approximately 84,500 tons of CO2 equivalent. This reduction is comparable to removing the emissions generated by over 186,000 commercial truck roundtrips between Indianapolis and Washington, D.C.
CountryMark, a farmer-owned cooperative, will use locally sourced soybean oil as the main feedstock for renewable diesel production. This approach supports regional agriculture while establishing a renewable fuel supply chain within Indiana.
Henrik Rasmussen, Managing Director of Topsoe Americas, stated: “Our collaboration with CountryMark goes back many years. With demand for renewable diesel continuing to grow, we’re excited to partner with CountryMark on their journey to produce cleaner fuels and contribute to America’s low-carbon energy future.”
CountryMark President and CEO Matt Smorch commented: “We saw this as an opportunity to deliver increased value to CountryMark diesel fuel buyers, increase the demand for Indiana agricultural products, and add value to our refining assets.”
Topsoe’s HydroFlex technology, in use since 2010, is designed to produce renewable diesel and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) from various feedstocks, including vegetable oils, waste fats, and other renewable sources. Its implementation at CountryMark will support both environmental goals and economic development within the region.
In addition to the Indiana project, Topsoe’s renewable fuel technologies are currently deployed in various international locations, including China, Brazil, Germany, and Canada. These projects form part of Topsoe’s broader efforts to support global energy transition initiatives through advanced refining technologies.
The collaboration between Topsoe and CountryMark reflects a strategic alignment of clean energy goals, agricultural support, and technological innovation. It also marks a key development in expanding renewable fuel infrastructure in the United States. With construction and implementation timelines to follow, the project is expected to contribute to lower-emission fuel production and strengthen Indiana’s position in the renewable energy sector.
