Wedoany.com Report-Aug. 11, Poland’s first offshore wind farm, Baltic Power, a joint venture between Orlen and Northland Power of Canada, has installed five of its 76 planned Vestas V236-15.0 MW turbines. The project’s monopile foundations and transition pieces, critical for turbine installation, are nearing the halfway point, as reported by Orlen.

Monopiles, supplied by Steelwind Nordenham, are installed by Van Oord’s Svanen vessel, while Smulders from Belgium provides transition pieces. The next steps involve laying subsea inter-array and export cables, with offshore substation installation planned for autumn 2025. Substation steel structures were manufactured in Gdynia and Gdańsk shipyards.

Key components, including nacelles, cables, and foundations, were produced in Polish facilities in Szczecin, Bydgoszcz, the Tri-City area, Żary, and Niemodlin. Orlen’s President, Ireneusz Fąfara, said: “We began offshore construction work earlier this year, and today we can already see the results. More turbines are rising in the Baltic Sea, and starting next year they will supply clean electricity to Polish households and industry. This is just one of many ORLEN investments under the country’s largest energy transition programme, worth up to PLN 380 billion.”

In May 2025, an operations and maintenance base was opened in Łeba to support the wind farm’s 30-year lifespan and currently hosts the Marine Coordination Centre. Onshore, a substation in Choczewo is being built to connect the 1.2 GW wind farm, set for commissioning in 2026, to the national grid. Orlen is also developing additional offshore wind projects, totaling around 5.5 GW, with Baltic East slated for Poland’s December 2025 auction.
