Wedoany.com Report-Aug. 11, Caterpillar is among the partners in a large-scale data center campus project proposed for Millard County, Utah, USA. The development is being led by Joule Capital Partners, with participation from Wheeler Machinery, a local dealer for Caterpillar.

The project is planned to deliver up to 4 gigawatts (GW) of power capacity, with a focus on integrated energy and cooling systems. According to the companies involved, the facility will feature advanced prime power capabilities along with combined cooling, heat, and power (CCHP) systems. A liquid cooling architecture will be incorporated from the start of the design phase.

Power for the campus will come from a fleet of Caterpillar’s G3520K generator sets, in addition to related support equipment. The project will also include 1.1 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of battery energy storage to support reliable operations.

The data center is intended to address increasing demand for computing capacity, particularly for artificial intelligence (AI) applications. Joule Capital Partners emphasizes that the development model is designed to avoid reliance on public utility timelines. A statement on the company’s website promotes the project’s speed: “Speed to market – No waiting on public utilities.”

David Gray, president of Joule Capital Partners, said: “This project represents the core of Joule’s mission—to deliver artificial intelligence (AI) ready compute capacity by pairing world-class data center campuses with reliable, on-demand power.”

The campus will cover approximately 4,000 acres in Millard County. Construction may begin soon, as a rezoning request for the site received approval from the Millard County Commission this week. Initial operations could start as early as next year, according to the developers.

This project is part of a broader trend in data infrastructure development, where companies are seeking more control over power sources and looking to deploy technologies tailored to high-performance computing needs.
