Wedoany.com Report-Aug. 18, Mitie Power & Grid, in partnership with Elements Green, has started construction on the 360MW/720MWh Staythorpe battery storage project in Newark, Nottinghamshire, UK. The £71.5 million facility, one of Europe’s largest, is designed to store renewable energy sufficient to power over 95,000 homes for a full day. The project is expected to be operational by mid-2027.

The Staythorpe battery energy storage system (BESS) will play a key role in supporting the UK’s clean energy transition. Mitie, through its subsidiary G2 Energy, will oversee the design and construction of the system, including a 400kV grid substation. Meanwhile, Elements Green will enhance the local environment by achieving a 25.7% biodiversity net gain through initiatives like planting new woodland, wildflower meadows, and trees.

The project is anticipated to create approximately 60 jobs during its construction phase and is designed to operate for 40 years, contributing to long-term energy sustainability in the region. The facility will store renewable energy, helping to stabilize the grid and support the integration of clean energy sources.
