Wedoany.com Report-Aug. 18, Spanish utility Iberdrola SA has collaborated with Ingeteam, a Spain-based power conversion specialist, to integrate battery energy storage systems (BESS) into four existing photovoltaic (PV) farms. The project involves solar facilities at Revilla Vallejera in Burgos, Andevalo in Huelva, and Almaraz I and II in Extremadura.

Each site will be equipped with five medium-voltage stations, managing a combined 25 MW/50 MWh of storage capacity per location, totaling 100 MW/200 MWh across all four farms. The BESS units, scheduled to become operational in the last quarter of 2025, will store a portion of the electricity produced by the solar farms, improving energy reliability and grid stability.
Ingeteam will handle the supply and commissioning of medium-voltage power electronics, control electronics, and SCADA solutions for the project. “This collaboration enables us to deliver cutting-edge, sustainable energy solutions,” said an Ingeteam spokesperson. “Our technology ensures seamless integration of storage with solar generation.”
The partnership builds on previous joint efforts between Iberdrola and Ingeteam in renewable energy hybridization projects in Spain, including two pumped storage initiatives. This history reflects their shared commitment to advancing clean energy infrastructure.
“Iberdrola is focused on optimizing our renewable assets to meet energy demands sustainably,” said an Iberdrola representative. “Integrating battery storage into these solar farms enhances our ability to deliver consistent, clean energy.”
The initiative supports Spain’s objectives to expand renewable energy capacity and enhance grid flexibility. By adding storage to existing solar farms, Iberdrola aims to maximize energy efficiency while contributing to a low-carbon energy system. The locations in Burgos, Huelva, and Extremadura position these facilities to address diverse regional energy needs effectively.
This project aligns with the growing trend of combining renewable energy sources with storage to balance production and demand. The battery systems will store surplus solar energy for use during peak demand or low generation periods, strengthening the energy network’s resilience. Ingeteam’s expertise in power conversion and control systems ensures efficient integration and operation of the storage units.
The collaboration between Iberdrola and Ingeteam highlights the importance of innovative technology in advancing Spain’s renewable energy sector, enhancing the performance and sustainability of solar energy infrastructure to meet future energy demands.
