Wedoany.com Report-Aug. 25, EDP, through its subsidiary EDP Renewables APAC, has signed a power purchase agreement for the installation of solar panels at Gardens by the Bay in Singapore. The project introduces more than 1,700 solar panels with a combined capacity of 1.08 megawatt-peak. These panels have been installed across various areas of the attraction, including the well-known Supertree Grove, as well as newer sites such as the Canopy and the Bayfront Pavilion.

The solar project is designed to enhance renewable energy adoption in an urban setting. By harnessing available surfaces for solar power generation, the initiative demonstrates how energy transition efforts can be integrated into highly developed city environments. The system is expected to contribute to reducing carbon emissions while supplying clean energy to the facilities.

Vera Pinto Pereira, board member of EDP, highlighted the importance of the project: “In a land-constrained city, every surface has the potential to contribute to decarbonisation, and this initiative reflects our commitment to delivering smart, scalable solutions that help our partners achieve their long-term sustainability goals.”

The installation at Gardens by the Bay marks a step in EDP Renewables APAC’s efforts to expand its renewable energy footprint in the region. The company has been actively involved in advancing solar and wind projects, supporting both commercial partners and public institutions in meeting their sustainability objectives.

Beyond energy generation, the project also carries symbolic value, integrating solar technology into one of Singapore’s most iconic landmarks. The combination of renewable energy systems with a major tourist attraction showcases how clean energy can be deployed in highly visible and multifunctional spaces, reinforcing both environmental and community impact.

EDP Renewables APAC continues to explore opportunities across Asia-Pacific, aligning with regional efforts to boost renewable energy adoption and decarbonisation goals. The Gardens by the Bay project not only enhances the site’s environmental performance but also serves as a demonstration of how urban infrastructure can be optimised to support sustainable development.
