Wedoany.com Report-Aug. 25, On August 20, the China Nuclear Energy Association reported the completion of the main structure for the auxiliary plant of Lianjiang nuclear power plant unit 1. The project advances China’s nuclear energy development with the CAP1000, a localized Westinghouse AP1000 design.

Approved in September 2022, construction for two 1250 MWe units began that month. Unit 1’s foundation was poured in September 2023, unit 2’s in April 2024, with unit 1’s reactor vessel installed in February. Unit 1 is set for operation by 2028.

The Shanghai Nuclear Engineering Design and Research Institute, under SPIC, led the effort. A spokesperson stated: “Fully leveraging the advantages of integrated construction and installation to ensure the smooth topping-out of the main structure of the powerhouse.” The project supports safe, high-quality construction.

Upon completion of all six units, Lianjiang will generate 70.2 TWh annually, reducing coal use by over 20 million tonnes and cutting emissions significantly. The project enhances energy security and sustainability.
